Abstract
"You are all welcome to join us on our first on-line lecture series on the “Political agenda and national awareness in the horizon of the late Enlightenment and the 19th c. revolutionary movements in Europe” on May 10th at 17.00. The series aims to highlight external and internal aspects of the Greek Revolution and will try to shed light on topics related to the way in which the Greek Revolution was imagined in Europe, the ways revolutions in America and France affected the movement for Greek independence, or of how the Greek Revolution should be reconsidered in relation to contemporary political theories of revolution and in the context of 21st century. As we always try to maintain an interdisciplinary approach, Greek and Dutch scholars from different disciplines are invited for each session.
In this first session Dr George Kalpadakis, Researcher at the Modern Greek History Research Centre (KEINE) of the Academy of Athens will reflect on “Enlightenment visions of the post-Ottoman Balkans: Rhigas and Kapodistrias”. Professor Annelien de Dijn, Professor of History at the Utrecht University will talk on “Key aspects of French political thought as a link between the Greek war of Independence and the French Revolution” and Dr Yanna Tzourmana, Adjunct Professor of History at the Hellenic Open University, will highlight the struggle to define “Constitutionalism and Reform Politics in the Age of Revolutions”."
From the description of the event, as it was pubished on the organizer's website.
