Abstract
After the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, the representatives of the Catholic communities in the Cycladic islands declared their neutrality towards the two belligerents. This led to various tensions between the insurgents and the “Latins” and invited the involvement of European powers on several occasions. The view from this crossroads of intense interaction between different cultures and powers describes the unfolding of the Greek Revolution as a process of building the Greek national community as well as the state territory.
