Abstract
Turning away from the sharp distinction between metropole and colony, this talk seeks to address how ‘internal enemies’ are produced. It asks how racial formations underwrite the imperial archipelagos that have prospered to forge the ‘interior frontiers’ of nation-states and their allegedly ‘peripheral’ imperial locations. This reflection questions why ‘decolonizing’ has become the buzzword of these times, focusing on the pretences of democratic orders that at once open and foreclose how we understand the inequities written into the very infrastructure of these polities today.
