Abstract
The seminar is based on the assumption that the commemorative celebrations of the Greek Revolution of 1821 are an object of study themselves and their analysis can help to understand the state of the present-day Greek society. The seminar will take a multidisciplinary approach to the commemorative moment of 2021 by studying the historiography of the revolution and independence as well as the way it is affected by the commemoration. It will examine the organisation of the various events planned for 2021 through its actors, its controversies and its mythologies. Finally, it will look into the reception of the commemorative moment and its echoes in political and cultural life, both nationally and locally.
