Abstract
In the wake of the work on the “biennialisation” of the Balkan public space, this research aims to question the relationship that contemporary art maintains with the myths of the “Renaissance of Greek culture” or “uninterrupted historical continuity”, conveyed by certain discourses on the 1821 Revolution. These “myths”, which appeal to an attractive form of historical narration about the past, offer an assembly of memories, monuments and ideas in a chronological order that is intended to be coherent. It is then a question of questioning the nature of the works and exhibitions of contemporary art shown within the framework of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution in order to understand the positioning of authors and artists vis-à-vis the notion of “Greekness” and speeches carried by the 2021 celebrations.
