Abstract

The exhibition “Manto Mavrogenous: the heroine of the Greek Revolution from today’s perspective” focuses on the historical outline of her action with an emphasis, among other things, on her portraits and historical records. Thanks to her letters, which have been preserved in the General State Archives, the image of the selfless patriot who sacrificed her personal life and property for the motherland is highlighted, but also the refusal of the newly established Greek state to recognise her services. As a result, she died in poverty, without her self-sacrifice and her selflessness recognised by her homeland. The exhibition is enriched with the contemporary visual creations of twelve artists, who with their expressive means will illuminate the multidimensional and multifaceted personality of Mavrogenous and its echo in our days.
