Abstract

The main themes of the conference revolve around the region of Epirus and Ioannina at the time of the 1821 Revolution. More specifically, the talks presented at the conference included aspects of the daily life of the time of Ali Pasha, local fighters, issues of folklore and culture of the Souliots, the points of view through which they experienced the issue of freedom and death. However, the conference is not limited only to the above-mentioned issues, but other presentations touch upon issues such as philhellenism, the various receptions of the revolution by art and theatre, memoirs of 1821 fighters, issues of military history, such as that of the management of prisoners, the impact of the revolution in other parts of Greece, the commemorations of 1821 in the Greek state as well as movements of populations and ideas in the wider region of southeastern Europe.
