The main topics of the conference are the following:
The connection between philhellenism and slavery, philhellenism as colonial ambition and empires, the influence of philhellenism on political thought as well as on cultural and artistic creation, transnational philhellenism as political resistance in Restoration Europe, transnational philhellenism in the Mediterranean, the connection of philhellenism with trade, scientific knowledge and the creation of new political, social institutions and ideologies of modernity (equality, nationalism, humanitarianism, universality) the reception of the revolution in the global public sphere.
