Abstract

"The Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera, in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Film Festival and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, presents on the Panoramic Steps of the SNFCC Christos Passalis and Syllas Tzoumerkas’ film installation “The City and the City”, in the context of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution. This cinema installation with three screens in simultaneous projection presents six chapters from the history of the Jewish community of Thessaloniki. Six episodes from the life and sufferings of the Jewish community of Thessaloniki are cinematically sculpted with the present-day city, creating a multifaceted cinematic narrative, in which two cities coexist in the same context: then and now diffuse into each other, looking for their origins, but also a common component for tomorrow."
