Abstract
To mark the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution, the Diocese of Mithymna presents an event, the main component of which is a talk by Metropolitan of Mithymna Chrysostomos on “The contribution of the clergy to the Greek Revolution” and a concert of Byzantine music with hymns from the feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin as well as traditional songs of 1821. The speaker emphasises the role and contribution of the church in the national liberation struggle. The Greek revolution was associated with Orthodoxy and the church, which inspired and nourished it, while in the difficult times of the downtrodden people it was the spiritual centre that gave strength to the fighters.
