Abstract
The ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra, in the context of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution, performs for the first time in a world performance the play "Makriyannis" by Pigi Lykoudis, based entirely on the composition of the poem of the same name by Angelos Sikelianos. The idea for the creation of the new symphonic work began to take shape when the composer received a manuscript reprint from the poem of Angelos Sikelianos " Makriyannis ". The musical approach was made with absolute respect and admiration to these two personalities, who adorn the course of Greek history. The synthetic approach of Lykoudis’ "Makriyannis " is a combination of orchestral music, recitation, and song. The work begins with an introduction which musically contains the composer's sense of Sikelianos’ poem. Nine songs and one refrain have been created, which serves as the refrain of the project. The recitation serves as an underlining of the lyrics that define the work, which are then repeated as a song. The orchestral music sections emphasize the shocking images of the poem in a descriptive way.
