Abstract

As part of the bicentenary marking the beginning of the Greek Revolution, the Youth Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca hosts an online event entitled “Around our Great ’21”. The ninth event is dedicated to the dynamic presence of the people of Lefkada in the revolution and their action, mainly in Central Greece. They were to be found on all fronts of the revolution since they participated in many well-known battles such as in Peta, Messolongi, Epirus and Karpenisi. The speaker mentions the names of important Lefkadians such as Theofylaktos Psilianos, Petros Sikelianos and the doctor Petros Stefanitsis. Most of them left the area of Magemenos or Alykes while others were active abroad. Sources for Lefkada of this period are the diary of Spyrantonis Chalkiopoulos and the memoirs of Petros Stefanitsis.
