Abstract

The 1821 Greek Revolution of 1821 is recorded in national history as an event that concerns the pursuit of the Greek nation to gain its independence; nonetheless, at the same time it is an event of European history. The purpose of this book is to explore the role of the Great Powers in the outbreak and evolution of the revolution. European assistance was necessary for its completion; however, without the initiative of the Greeks themselves, the Battle of Navarino would not have taken place. The 1821 Revolution did not have consequences merely for the Greeks but was one of the events that led to the disintegration of the Europe of the Holy Alliance, which had prevailed after the defeat of Napoleon and the Congress of Vienna in 1815.
