Abstract

The Aristotelian Society of Corfu, in an bicentennial event “Empire and Revolution”, discusses the historical events of the 1821 Greek Revolution in the light of its historical interpretation. A new series of public talks will run from 3 February 2021 and to May 2021. It will provide an historical overview through the revolutionary and political texts of the struggle. The introduction presents the difference between tradition and modernity and the important role of language, which embodies the meanings and importance of Greek culture. The concept of identity and the concept of nation-genus are also discussed and thoughts are presented on the methodology of the historical research to mark the bicentenary of the revolution.
