Abstract
The Holy Diocese of Messinia, continuing its events marking the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution, organises the following talks: “The Church in Messina before and after the Struggle” and “The Bishop of Messina Iosif from Androusis and his political work”. The first speaker presents the historical context of Messina from the period of Frankish rule and the first period of Venetian rule (1206) until the struggle for independence in 1821. It presents the action and the work of the church in the prerevolutionary period, with special reference to the Metropolitan of Fthiotida Kallinikos Kastorchis and the dioceses of Monemvasia and Kalamata. The second speaker introduces the Bishop Iosif of Messina, who was from Androussa, and his political work.
