Abstract

The main goal of the project is to highlight some unknown to the general public stories of the 1821 Revolution, which played an important role in the creation of the Greek state. The specific stories concern the preparation of the great struggle and the “battles” on an organisational and theoretical level that were evolving in parallel with the historical struggles which are especially known to all Greeks. Also, the love and self-sacrifice for the homeland of these Greeks is highlighted, a concept which nowadays has almost disappeared. For the needs of the project, a modern digital visual environment was created with the help of virtual reality and the technique of projection mapping. The theatrical text was adapted in the form of a multi-script and integrated into the digital structure of the play. In essence, the world of theatre and digital arts coexist through a conversation between them. It also utilises existing material from the archives, such as engravings, paintings and other everyday elements of the time, which provide the virtual environment that complements the narrative and converses with the actors. The actors-musicians coexist with this digital canvas, sometimes being part of the digital space, sometimes intervening in it dynamically and sometimes conversing with it through kinesiology and narration. New media artist Manthos Santorinios and actress and director Mania Papadimitriou collaborate to create the play.
