Abstract
Androniki is the first opera by the Corfiot composer Alexandros Grek (1876-1959) and was completed in 1905, after a writing that lasted more than two years. The libretto was written, in close collaboration with the composer, by the poet and writer A. Vranas, who was based on the historical novel by Stefanos Xenos “The heroine of the Greek Revolution: Scenes in Greece from 1821 to 1827”, a play with a history, fictional, national and timeless character. The story unfolds around three fantastic people, the heroine Androniki, the fighter Thrasyvoulos and the malicious Varthakas, during the period of the Greek Revolution.
