Abstract
The programme of the Parents’ School–Open University of Katerini for 2020-2021 includes talks by distinguished speakers to mark the bicentenary of the1821 Greek Revolution. Academics, hierarchs, politicians, doctors, etc. from America, Russia, Greece, Cyprus and Mount Athos illustrate with their research aspects of the epic struggle to liberate Greece from the Ottoman yoke. They in turn give a “global” dimension to the tribute of the Parents’ School to Greece’s national rebirth. The first event in the series is dedicated to the contribution of diaspora Greeks and the Russian people to the 1821 Greek Revolution. PhD student Alexandra Sutova recites an excerpt from a poem by the Russian officer Fyodor Glinka, while a video was presented by the choir of the students of the Moscow Greek School, who sang the “Hymn to Liberty” of Dionysios Solomos.
