Abstract
Dimitrios K. Vyzantios’ leading theatrical work "Babylonia", adapted and directed by Takis Chrysikakos, returns to the Lazariston Monastery (Sokratis Karantinos Stage) to meet the audience of Thessaloniki. In a Greece of heterogeneity that struggles to be resurrected in a state, carrying remnants of the Ottoman yoke, ancient Greek parchments, Italian influences but also the special cultures that its people developed in isolated areas, where ignorance, administrative bureaucracy and the lack of coherence caused troubles, the Greeks will find after the upheaval and misunderstanding of the "language issue" the path to national identity. They will shoulder it on stage under the watchful eye of police officer Kosmas Sakharov, as an Anatolian Takis Chrysikakos, as a Chian Ilias Berberis, as an Arvanite Alexandros Moukanos, as a Cretan Konstantinos Chatzisavvas and as a Cypriot Vasilis Papadopoulos. Chrysikakos used two versions of the play (1836 and 1840) to create the material that will highlight his special directorial look.
