The 1821 Revolution: New approaches

Item

Title

The 1821 Revolution: New approaches

Date

15-16 June 2022

Abstract

The conference covers a variety of topics in an effort to capture, based on research availability, aspects of the revolutionary phenomenon and multifaceted experiences during the revolutionary period. The common denominator of all the topics is the perception that the 1821 Revolution was an intersection in various aspects of human life, the study of which will highlight the discontinuities and continuities at multiple levels (daily life, political institutions, mentalities, etc). Along with these, the revolution left its mark on the collective consciousness of Greek society, whose aspects will be sought through the investigation of the reception of 1821.

The conference highlights aspects of the Greek Revolution that have not been systematically studied, such as: the view of the other, what the Ottoman sources testify about 1821, the daily life in the years of the struggle, the life and activity of the many, not just the famous, like women and children, and, in general, aspects needed to raise new research questions and in-depth study of sources.
