Abstract
The Municipality of Hydra hosts an event in honour of philhellenes and the philhellenic movements during the revolutionary struggle. The country of honour is Austria. While Austria’s policy was opposed to the Greek Revolution, the event, organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Austria in Greece, seeks to highlight the Austrian philhellenes who helped the national liberation struggle. The event, “Austrian philhellenism in the Greek Revolution”, also included a classical music concert. Hydra Mayor Giorgios Koukoudakis and Austrian Ambassador Hermine Poppeller addressed the event. Talks included: “200 years Greece and Austria: Thoughts on and beyond the War of Independence” and “Austrian Philhellenism in the Greek Revolution”.
