Abstract
Called the “Bouboulina of Thrace”, Domna Visvizi refused to enjoy the comfort of a rich life. Instead, she was initiated into the principles of the Philiki Etaireia and gave her entire fortune to the Greek Revolution. She was born in 1783 in Ainos in Eastern Thrace and was the daughter of a wealthy family. At the age of 25, she married the shipowner Hatzis Antonis Visvizis, with whom she had five children, three boys and two girls. Hatzi Antonis Visvizis was one of the first, at that time, to be initiated into the Philiki Etairia. Domna, following in her husband's footsteps, began to acquire political thought. And not only. Domna left the land, took her children, after selling all her valuables, and followed her husband. The same flame for freedom burned within her. When Hatzi Antonis was murdered under unclear circumstances, Domna decided not to mourn.
