Abstract
The exhibition entitled "Freedom 2021: Cypriot tesserae on the occasion of art", is essentially an exhibition with a dual role: on the one hand, the exhibition of works related to the Greek Revolution, persons and moments that shaped the nation. On the other hand, on the occasion of the paintings, Echo of Cyprus 1821-2021 seizes the opportunity and presents seven moments from the contribution of Cyprus to the Greek Revolution. Moments "known and unknown" that complement the knowledge surrounding the great historical event. The opening ceremony will be performed by Mayor of Nicosia Constantinos Yiorkadjis.
(Edited and translated description from organiser’s website)
The exhibition presents seven works (1 by Nitsa Hatzigeorgiou, 4 works by Savvas Georgiadis and 2 by Vangelis Tzermias) depicting portraits of fighters and moments of the Revolution.
The paintings that will be exhibited in the space come from the private collection of the lawyer and wine producer Christodoulos G. Vassiliadis and the collection of the painter Nitsa Hatzigeorgiou, while the selection of works was made on behalf of the Nicosia International Festival by the Art historian Yiannis Toumazis. The exhibition and the texts are edited by the historians Iliana Koulafeti and Maria Christodoulou on behalf of the group Echo of Cyprus 1821-2021."
