Abstract
A concert that presented music composed for voice and piano in English by philhellenes such as John Hugh McNaughton, Elam Ives Jr, Arkwright, Hodson, etc., whose work was inspired by prominent figures of rebellious Greece: The Exiled Greek, The Greek Amazon, The Sailor Bidding Farewell to his Island, and – above all – the most famous and most sung Maid of Athens based on a poem by Lord Byron, the cornerstone of the philhellenic movement, which ends with a Greek verse “Ζωή μου σε αγαπώ” (My life, I love you).
