Abstract
With a series of concerts of philhellenic music, the B&M Theocharakis Foundation for Fine Arts & Music pays tribute to the philhellenes who supported, with their initiative and action, the fighting spirit of the revolution and with their work maintained the interest of Europe in the Greek struggle. The first concert presents works composed for song and piano in French by philhellene men and women, works that were presented in the Parisian salons on the initiative of mainly bourgeois women, but also of the aristocracy, as fundraisers to financially and morally support the Greek Revolution: The Thief, Botsari’s Widow, The Farewells, icons and symbols of the revolution but also of the daily reality of that time, come to life through the compositions of Mélanie Allut, Ferdinando Paer, Louis Jadin, Georges Kuhn and others.
