Abstract
The Scientific Section of the Missionary Action “O Megas Vasileios” organises an online conference entitled “The vision of the 1821 fighters for the new Greek state”. The purpose is not only a historical reference to the bicentenary of the revolution that marked the new political existence of the Greek state. It is an examination of national self-consciousness in the principles left to us by those to whom we owe our freedom and independence. The speakers delve into the intentions of the 1821 fighters for the new Greek state by answering the following questions: For which Greece did the heroes of 1821 fall in the fire of battle? With what vision of the homeland did they fight? How did they imprint in their consciousness the new Greek state that was to rise from the ashes of the struggle? If they lived today, would they recognise in the current political conditions the state for which they shed their blood?
