Abstract

As part of the celebrations to mark the bicentenary of Greek Revolution, the Youth Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca hosts an online events entitled “Around our Great ’21”. The first event is dedicated to the presence and activities of the Philki Etaireia in Santa Maura (Lefkada). An important source for their activities on the island are the texts of Ioannis Zambelios. Reference is made to a general historical context of Lefkada and to names that were initiated in the Philki Etaireia such as Ioannis Zambelios, Angelos Soundias, Nikolaos Stavrakis, Hieromonk Symeon Vrettos, Andreas Zachariou. The above had as meeting places with Philki Etaireia members major monasteries such as Faneromeni, Agia Triados, Panagia Odigitria, Panagia Vlacherna, etc. In fact, in the last monastery, all the above swore to liberate their homeland. In conclusion, Lefkada was present in the preparation of the struggle through the Philiki Etaireia and in its conduct.
