Abstract

Animasyros 2021, which took place under the support of the Greece 2021 Committee, was presented in physical format, in natural spaces on the island of Syros and digitally through a special platform. The rich artistic programme of the tribute on the theme of freedom includes short and regular films, which have been screened at the largest animation festivals in the world, such as the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, while most of them will be screened for the first time in Greece, capturing more imaginatively the multifaceted notion of freedom and revolution. The freedom tribute travels around the world, from China and Chile to neighbouring Turkey, bringing to the big screen of the two festivals Oscar-nominated films that draw inspiration from key themes, approaching the concept of freedom in a natural but and social level: from imprisonment in concentration camps, political freedom to authoritarian regimes, police repression to social revolution, the struggle for LGBTQI rights, gender equality, reproductive freedom, and even animal freedom, independence from the family, but also liberation from our own inaction
