Abstract
Thessaloniki Municipal Art Gallery participates in the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution with the action “Animating paintings”. For the implementation of the action, five emblematic works on the theme of the Greek Revolution have been selected: “The Massacre of Chios” and “Greece on the ruins of Messolongi” by Eugène Delacroix, “Grateful Hellas” by Theodoros Vryzakis, “The Sacrifice” by François-Émile de Lansac and the “Greek Women Imploring at the Virgin of Assistance” by Ary Scheffer. The images of these works are printed on large banners, in front of which actors in the same costume represent the central form of each work (tableaux vivants). On the national anniversary of March 25, the project, which is framed with music, literary texts, poems and writings of the time, is broadcast by the Municipal Television-TV100, by the digital culture platform of the Municipality of Thessaloniki (e-thessalonikiculture.gr) and by the channel of the Municipality of Thessaloniki on YouTube.
