Abstract
As part of the bicentenary marking the beginning of the Greek Revolution, the Youth Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca hosts an online event entitled “Around our Great ’21”. The seventh event is dedicated to Ioannis Kapodistrias, a phenomenon, hero and protagonist of his era. He nurtured the idea of freeing the Orthodox population from Muslim subjugation and his goal was whatever he did to serve that purpose. He helped the national issue with his action mainly as a Russian diplomat while the speaker emphasises his work in the educational system but also his action in Lefkada. This was a person who did not cooperate with anyone unless the national interests of Greece were served and who contributed the most to the initial success of 1821. However, he is not responsible for the course of the revolution from 1823 onwards, according to the speaker.
