Abstract
As part of the bicentenary marking the beginning of the Greek Revolution, the Youth Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca hosts an online event entitled “Around our Great ’21”. The 12th event has as its theme the uprising of the villagers of Lefkada in 1819, an issue that still arouses the interest of scholars. The aim of the event is to narrate the events, based mainly on archival sources and the highlighting of research issues and questions. The speaker presents the reason for the uprising, which is the tax burden of Lefkada (on the wealthy and farmers) for the opening of a canal. It presents in chronological order the events from 15 September 1819 until the end of November, the reaction of the villagers to the representatives of the administration, their requests and the decisions of the government to deal with them.
