Abstract

The revolution was prepared by all the learned tendencies of the time; it was the work of both ordinary priests and monks, but in practice it was ultimately the work of the common people. Of course, some people exceeded the limits in smoke, fog and bullets. Overall, however, it was a “national liberation revolution” based on political criteria and based on the “liberation theology” of modern theological criteria. The fact that the protagonists were more or less Orthodox Christians (although some were “Christian Christians”), the large participation of priests and monks and the participation of senior clerics, even with a second thought, put a Christian mark on the event. However, the split that occurred under Bavarian rule with the Ecumenical Patriarchate gave birth to a “Greek Christian” interpretation and ideology, hence the official celebration on March 25. That’s why today there are four perspectives on the type of revolution. But I think the three of them are weak.
