Title

Paternal and fraternal teaching: On the threshold of 1821, two worlds collide

Abstract

The road to the 1821 Revolution was not paved with rose petals. In addition to the Ottomans and other external dangers, the Greek Enlightenment and revolutionaries were called upon to confront the supreme leadership of the Orthodox Church, which was utterly hostile to the values of freedom and independence. This book includes for the first time two texts published in 1798. The “Fatherly Teaching” of the Patriarch Anthimos of Jerusalem and the answer of Adamantios Korais, through his work “Brotherly Teaching”. It is the clash of two conflicting worlds.
