Abstract
The memoirs of Kallinikos Kyriakos Kritovoulidis (1792–1868) are the most important testimony on the 1821 Revolution in Crete, for which little evidence has survived. The author belongs to the tradition of the Cretan Enlightenment scholars. His memoirs offer a comprehensive and penetrating anatomy of the revolutionary society of Crete in the 1820s but also of its relations with the revolution on the mainland.
