Abstract

As part of its series of talks on 1821, the Iakovatios Library held its third online discussion on the topic “Public Monuments for the Greek Revolution and its protagonists”. The speaker emphasises the importance of monuments as they immortalise persons and events of the past and are derivatives of the formation of memory. He points out that in our country there is no common monument built with state initiative that honours all the fighters of 1821, except for some local initiatives. Finally, he refers to some monuments and their importance, such as the Karaiskakis monument in Faliro, the Ellinopoula in Messolongi, the statues of the Patriarch and Riga in the Propylaea, etc.
