Abstract

As part of its series of talks on 1821, the Iakovatios Library held its eighth online discussion on the topic “Literary creation during the Greek Revolution”. The speaker’s speech was structured in three parts: The introductory part, which describes what was happening in the field of literature in the prerevolutionary years; the main part concerning the period of the revolution and, finally, the conclusions. He points out that the literary activity of the Greeks developed mainly in the Greek communities abroad but also in the Ionian Islands, that is, where there were no wars. He then presents the views of Adamantios Korais and Dionysios Solomos on literature as well as Trikoupis encouragement of Solomos to write about the revolution.
