Abstract

The Holy Diocese of Paros and Naxos, within the framework of the activities marking the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution, organises an event with the theme “The Metropolitan of Paros and Naxos Ierotheos Aristarchos and his contribution to the Greek Revolution”. The speaker gives information about the life of the metropolitan, his initiation into the Philiki Etaireia, his active action in the struggle while emphasising that he was an idol as he was one of the members of the hierarchy who guided the fighters throughout the revolution with absolute courage. Finally, he presents the announcement of the death of Ierotheos Aristarchos in 1851: “The Metropolitan and Archbishop of Aetolia and Acarnania, who personally fought and sacrificed his last penny for faith and homeland, in whose house they once found asylum, food, paupers and orphans, died a poor man.”
