Abstract
On the occasion of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution against Ottoman rule, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens presents 21 known and unknown German philhellenes in the context of a series created for social networks that includes testimonies from German philhellenes in Germany and Greece. The first to be presented is Carl Rottmann, who was a famous Greek painter and landscape artist of Greece. The third article presents Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717–1768), who was the first German archaeologist, in the modern sense of the term, and an important teacher of art.
