Abstract
The Holy Diocese of Halkida, in the Church of Agios Dimitrios, Halkida, holds a commemorative event on the occasion of the bicentenary of the national rebirth, of the 1821 Revolution, in the framework of the 29th Dimitria Festival. The topic of the talk is “Glances at 1821 on the island of Evia and the Northern Sporades” by journalist Georgios Angelou, who presented reading the memoirs and diaries of local protagonists of the revolution such as the fighter Nathanail Ioannou and Admiral Alexandros Kriezis. Then the speaker presented forms of revolution and revolutionary events in Evia and the Sporades with the main personality being the fighter Nikolaos Krieziotis. The revolutionary fighters are examples of heroism and self-sacrifice, while the role of the church and the clergy was decisive. The event was accompanied by a musical performance. Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Halkida addressed the event before it concluded.
