Abstract

The Holy Diocese of Messinia, concluding the implementation of its bicentennial events, presents a talk by Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia on “The ethos of heroes and fighters for freedom during the 1821 Greek Revolution”. The metropolitan underlines that all the events of his diocese for the bicentenary paid tribute to known and unknown heroes of the revolution but also gratitude to those who were sacrificed. The 1821 fighters showed in practice that they were bearers of eternal ideals that have always been oriented towards freedom, selflessness, faith in God and wisdom. The revolutionaries, new martyrs and national martyrs were characterized by an heroic offering and spirit of self-sacrifice.
