Abstract

The Messinian Amfiktyonia begins a series of online lectures with distinguished personalities mark the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution. The fifth talk is a summary of a general study of the speaker that took the form of a book entitled “Ships and figureheads of 1821”, which presents the most important figureheads of ships from the three islands of Spetses, Hydra, Psara. The figureheads are a branch of the European type and were created in the 18th century. The speaker presents figureheads from ships of the revolution and which had Greek names from ancient Greece, such as Leonidas, Alexander the Great, Themistocles, heroes that are reminiscent of the heroism of Greece.
