Abstract

The Messinian Amfiktyonia hosts a series of online lectures with distinguished personalities mark the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution. The seventh talk uses historical texts and sources to refer to the first great battle of the struggle that took place in Ligoudista on 27 March 1821 and not in Karytaina, as is widely believed. It presents the course of Greeks and Turks, maps and the leader of the Greek revolutionaries, Athanasios Grigoriadis. It was a key battle that took place in an ideal position for an ambush, while information and details are drawn from the historical manuscripts of the leader.
