Abstract

The Messinian Amfiktyonia hosts a series of online lectures with distinguished personalities mark the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution. The ninth talk seeks to answer questions such as what Ibrahim meant and the intervention in the Peloponnese and what Mehmet Ali’s Egypt meant, in order to better understand 1821. Reference is made to the Napoleonic Wars, the Ottoman Empire that wanted to seize power in Egypt, the creation of an army and the expansionist policy of Mehmet Ali. Finally, the speaker analyses the agreement between the Ottoman Empire and Egypt and their role in the Greek Revolution.
