Abstract

The famous “national opera” by Pavlos Carrer is a narrative of the course and action of Markos Botsaris during Turkish rule. A Greek national opera, as it has been characterised, an anthem to the bravery and excellence of the great general. After many adventures, the play premiered to Patras for the first time in 1861. Since then “Markos Botsaris” has made an impressive course in important lyric theatres of Greece and abroad. In the process, for unknown reasons, the play was lost and at the by the end of 1950 only the sheet music survived. The new orchestration was done by Byron Fidetzis in 2013.
