Abstract
“On the occasion of 1821” takes a different view of 1821, through a game with time and memory was designed by the Bodossakis Foundation and curated by journalist Maria Katsounaki, in the context of the foundation’s participation in the Initiative 1821–2021. Celebrities from the fields of acting, history, literature, gastronomy, economics, directing, philosophy, sociology, music, theoretical computer science, sport and civil society shared a personal thought, a reflection, an event, which connects the story of each with this great history. The speaker refers to the speech of Giorgos Seferis in Alexandria in 1943 about General Makryannis, whom he considered the most stable teacher of his life. It emphasises the current lack of standards and the concern created by the bicentenary of 1821 for the level of the political and cultural presentation of our country.
