Abstract
On the occasion of the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution, a concert was held in the courtyard of the Historic Parish Church of Timios Prodromos in Argos. The concert was attended by the Byzantine dance group Agios Petros Bishop of Argos, the mixed folk choir, the orchestra and dance department of the Lyceum of Greek Women of Argos as well as the Training Department of the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Argolida. Excerpts from “Free Besieged” by Dionysios Solomos, composed by Giannis Markopoulos, works by the country’s poets (Andreas Kalvos, Kostas Varnalis, etc.) as well as traditional songs and church hymns were performed, while for the first time the “Song of General Tsokris”, the text of which was recorded by Ioannis Ern. Zeginis in his work “Argos through the centuries”.
