Abstract
Talk by His Eminence Panteleimonos, Metropolitan of Veria, Naoussa and Kampania, within the framework of the series of talks on “Blood of Martyrs and Heroes” marking the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution. His fifth talk is dedicated to the church’s contribution to the revolution and to the new martyrs, who are national heroes and martyrs of Christ. They waged an unequalled and daring struggle to satisfy the desire for freedom while preventing Islamisation through the dissemination of the Greek language and their personal sacrifice. Finally, he states that we have a duty to honour, respect and highlight their contribution.
