Abstract
The Union of Greek Criminologists and the Union of Greek Lawyers e-Themis, collaborate with Michalis Reppas and Thanasis Papathanasiouto revive the trial of Theodoros Kolokotronis on the stage of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus with real lawyers as protagonists. The purpose of the synergy is to highlight the historical-political and legal significance of the trial of Theodoros Kolokotronis and Dimitris Plapoutas, who were accused of conspiracy against King Otto. The trial took place in Nafplio, in the former mosque known today as the Vouleftikon in the spring of 1834 and lasted a total of six weeks. This first major trial of modern Greece lends itself to timeless reflection on the physiognomy of the modern Greek state, the divisive party passions, the role of foreign powers and the interventions of political power in the administration of justice. The play highlights the power of judicial discourse and free conscience, and at the same time conveys the message of unity on the long path to national integration.
