Abstract
The historian and writer from Nafpaktos Giannis Vlachogiannis established the 1821 struggle in the collective memory. The “recorder” of the revolution saved and highlighted, among many others, the memoirs of General Makrygiannis. In the original text of Manos Karatzogiannis, Vlachogiannis gives, making a poetic account of his life, a modern lesson in Greek history: from the poverty of the first years of his life where the Greek society, after “winning the big ones, had to fight for the small “until the establishment of the General State Archives, of which he was director for more than 20 years.
