Abstract

A satire, enriched with 35 songs by Christos Leontis, on the theme of the liberation struggle of the Greeks in 1821, directed by Giorgos Kiourtsidis. The work “Protectors” by Mitsos Efthymiadis illuminates, with clever humour and symbolism, the flaws and strengths of our nation which remain timeless and we find them in modern society. The play presents on stage classic events, illuminated from another side, but without tarnishing the result and the importance of the Greek Revolution as well as the birth of the Greek state. The public will meet not persons but characters/symbols that reach today and will discover the purposes and interests of those who declared themselves “protectors”. The question that remains to be answered is: Did the “Protectors” finally protect Greece?”
